New NSW case a hotel security worker, NSW Health Minister says
The new case, a 47-year-old hotel quarantine security worker, tested positive late in the evening, Brad Hazzard said.
He worked out of a number of hotels, two of which are of interest – the Sofitel and the Mantra Hotel.
“The testing is being followed up and checked, and it is an appropriate form of testing on a daily basis but sometimes does have results that need further clarification. Of course, we do follow-up testing when that follow-up testing is taken, but the results are not available as yet,” Mr Hazzard said.
“The gentleman who tested positive yesterday, normally we would go back to the 11th, so a couple of days for that, 48 hours, that likely exposure period. But the health people are going back to the eighth in terms of his contact, that is being worked at the moment.”
Mr Hazzard said the man’s family had all tested negative so far.
The man received his first vaccinated on March 2, Mr Hazzard said.
“We wouldn’t have expected his immune system to kick in for 12-14 days or potentially longer, and then the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine gives further enhancement to that immune response.”
