Kennar Lewis quickly scored 89 points, the highest score in the tournament so far, and beat the Barbados Royals by six strokes for Jamaica Tallawahs. This is their second victory in the 2021 Heroic Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
After the Royals chose to hit the ball on Tuesday night, they scored 151 on 8 shots and achieved impressive results, relying on Azam Khan’s 50 points and only 30 goals.
But Tallawahs chased the target with 17.4 points, thanks to some excellent shots from Lewis, who received strong support from Shamarh Brooks (47 points without 26 goals).
The Barbados Royals found themselves in early trouble after choosing to hit the ball. They lost consecutive shots in Powerplay to Fidel Edwards key hitters Shai Hope and Kyle Mayers, the latter of whom first appeared in this year’s hero CPL.
Azam and Phillips led a recovery mission. The two formed a partnership of 71 runs with 51 balls, laying the foundation for the team.
Joshua Bishop then scored 18 of the 8 goals at the end of the game, which enabled his team to achieve a considerable total.
Migael Pretorius was the outstanding bowler of the Tallawahs, scoring four wickets, while Rovman Powell led by example and achieved three outstanding catches in the field.
Tarawa’s response was led by Lewis, although his team lost early wickets in the spin of Joshua Bishop, including Captain Powell, who provided the motivation for the inning-to leave.
The Barbados Royals would consider themselves unfortunate because star bowler Mohamed Amir had to leave the court when he was injured in the second game.
This victory put Jamaican Tallawahs in second place in the hero CPL standings.
